Study programme Industrial Process Engineering (in English)

A graduate of the Industrial Process Engineering programme is a process engineer—often also referred to as a chemical engineer—prepared to design, commission and improve technological processes in the chemical industry and related sectors (including the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, materials, energy and environmental industries). This is a specialist who understands a process as an integrated whole: from raw materials and operating parameters, through equipment and plant installation, to product quality, safety, costs and environmental impact.

The Master’s programme develops the ability to work with complex engineering problems for which there is no single obvious solution. Graduates can formulate technological objectives, select appropriate analysis methods and evaluation criteria, and make decisions based on data, models and engineering knowledge—while taking into account trade-offs between efficiency, quality, economics and sustainability.

What skills will you gain?

Process analysis and improvement

· analyse plant operation using mass and energy balances as well as momentum, heat and mass transfer phenomena,

· identify bottlenecks, energy losses, and technological and quality-related constraints,

· propose process improvements that are technically feasible and economically justified.

Design and optimisation

· select process concepts and equipment to meet a defined function and operating conditions,

· develop alternative solutions, compare them and recommend the best option,

· account for safety, environmental and reliability requirements.

Working with data and computational tools

· use IT/computational tools for engineering calculations, scenario studies and evaluation of process parameters,

· analyse experimental and/or simulation data, identifying key relationships and patterns,

· validate results (compare with theory and literature data) and assess their credibility.

R&D competencies

· plan a research methodology (experiment or computational study) and select appropriate techniques and tools,

· critically interpret results and formulate recommendations for further research or implementation,

· prepare reliable technical documentation, reports and analyses.

Communication and professional practice

· present results in a way that is clear for different audiences (technical teams, managers, stakeholders),

· work with English-language literature and specialist terminology,

· apply principles of research integrity and intellectual property protection (proper referencing and source-based work).

Where do graduates work?

After completing the programme, you can pursue careers as a process engineer/technologist, process optimisation and energy efficiency specialist, commissioning/start-up engineer, R&D specialist, process safety engineer, or technology consultant. The programme also provides a solid foundation for further academic development and research-oriented careers.
