Study programme Mathematical Methods in Data Analysis (in English)
Mathematical Methods in Data Analysis (MMDA) is a first-cycle (engineering) degree program conducted in English, aimed at providing comprehensive mathematical knowledge and analytical skills necessary for data analysis, as well as modern techniques of modeling and data-driven decision-making. The program lasts 7 semesters and includes a set of courses in mathematics, statistics, and computer science, preparing graduates to perform analytical tasks in diverse professional environments.
Graduates possess solid theoretical knowledge of mathematics and its applications in data analysis, particularly in applied linear algebra, mathematical analysis, probability theory, statistics, numerical methods, and optimization. The curriculum also includes specialized topics related to data science, such as applied statistics, multivariate data analysis, mathematical modeling, and forecasting methods. This structure ensures that graduates have a strong theoretical foundation enabling them to construct, evaluate, and interpret data analysis models in the context of real-world engineering and business problems.
An integral part of the education is the development of IT skills and the ability to use digital tools, enabling the practical application of acquired knowledge. Students gain programming and data analysis experience in the context of databases, algorithms, and data structures, and learn to use IT systems, statistical tools, and techniques for data visualization and reporting. The program includes interdisciplinary projects and practical tasks that develop the ability to apply mathematical and statistical methods to the analysis of large datasets and to make decisions based on analytical results.
Additionally, graduates develop soft skills such as teamwork, communication of analytical results, and drawing conclusions in English, which enhances their ability to operate in an international professional environment. The curriculum also includes courses aimed at developing interpersonal and project-related skills, fostering analytical and critical thinking in solving complex problems.
Graduates possess the ability to apply data mining methods, classification algorithms, stochastic modeling, and techniques for visualization and reporting. They can effectively use mathematical and statistical approaches to interpret data, select appropriate analytical tools, and design solutions aligned with labor market requirements. As a result, they are prepared to solve analytical problems, make decisions in business environments, and adapt to dynamic technological changes.
Graduates of the MMDA program may work as data analysts, market analysts, and database designers or programmers in both the private sector (e.g., banking, insurance, healthcare, IT) and the public sector. They are also academically prepared to continue education at the second-cycle level in applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, or related data analysis fields, offering opportunities for further academic or professional development.
