Study programme Power Engineering

The Power Engineering program is a joint initiative of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, and Automation. The curriculum encompasses the processes of energy generation from both conventional and renewable sources (RES), as well as the conversion of energy in various forms (thermal, mechanical, and electrical energy). The program provides knowledge about systems of thermal, power, and electrical machines and devices.

By combining knowledge and skills from two disciplines—mechanical engineering and automation, electronics, electrical engineering, and space technologies—graduates acquire a unique set of competencies, enabling them to effectively compete in the job market.

Graduates of the Power Engineering program gain engineering knowledge, skills, and competencies in the design and operation of energy systems and devices, utilizing both traditional engineering tools and modern commercial software for computer-aided design and numerical simulations for flow, strength, and electrical calculations. They also acquire knowledge about the functioning of complex energy systems such as thermal power plants, electric power systems and networks, and their components, as well as devices using renewable energy sources and cooling, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems.

Students of the Power Engineering program can pursue their interests through one of three specialization tracks:

• Energy and Thermal Systems
• Electrical Power Engineering
• Renewable Energy Sources

This study structure, combined with a wide range of elective courses, allows students to flexibly shape their individual educational path, tailored to their interests and the topic of their thesis. It is worth emphasizing the significant presence of subjects related to renewable energy sources (wind farms, photovoltaics, heat pumps, energy storage, distributed energy, etc.) in the curriculum, aligning with current trends in energy transition.

The programme was approved by Senate Resolution No. 43/2025 of 28 May 2025.

The programme has been modified within the framework of the project ‘Education for the Needs of Key Sectors at Lodz University of Technology,’ co-financed by the European Union under the European Funds for Social Development Programme 2021–2027.
